Japan Life / Life, the Universe and Everything Else

It’s August 6th in Japan right now…

August 6th, 1945, atom bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tomorrow is the 58th anniversary of the United States bombing Japan. My mother and I were watching the memorial service just now on NHK. I had to stop watching, I was getting emotional over it. It’s so sad that this… these horrible things happened, it brings tears to my eyes.

They were saying in the broadcast that around 5,500 people died this year from bomb radiation. Those names were written into a book and added to the memorial grave.

It seems that there are more deaths each year due to radiation poisoning. They said in the broadcast that now more than ever, it’s important to remember and share with the world what happened on that day and hope it never happens again. I couldn’t agree more.

They showed the paper crane memorial, the one that some stupid jerk set fire to last week. They have since had many paper cranes sent through the mail to recover the damage to the memorial. I’m glad some people haven’t forgotten about those cranes.

Since I don’t have 1,000 sheets of origami, only one… I made a paper crane as a memorial. I hope it’ll be okay.
